Guide
How to email a dealer for an out-the-door price
Email the dealer's internet sales address naming the exact car (stock number or VIN if listed), your ZIP, and when you can buy, and ask for one written out-the-door price that itemises the vehicle price, every dealer fee, tax, title and registration, quoted without add-ons. Send the same request to several dealers and compare the written totals.
Why the total, not the payment
A monthly payment can stay the same while the price, term or rate changes underneath it. One written total is easy to compare between dealers.
What to leave out
Do not lead with your trade-in or how you plan to pay. Settle the car's total first, then handle the trade and the financing as separate questions.
When they reply with 'come in'
Reply once, politely, that you are comparing written quotes this week and will visit the dealer whose number works. Many dealers will then send one.
Quick answers
Should I text or email?
Email first, because you get a written record. Text is fine for quick follow-ups.
What if the quote has add-ons?
Ask for a revised quote without them. Many add-ons are optional even when they are pre-printed on the window sticker.
